Abstract

This study was designed to analyze the effectiveness of teaching vocabulary through VocCom (Vocabulary Competition) using the ATM_VIBE (Automatic Teaching Machine_Vocabulary Item Bank of English) program at Athalia School, North Serpong. This activity was carried out on 39 class I students at Athalia School as research subjects. The method used is experimental research. The research design used was one group pretest-posttest design. Data from the initial test results before the competition and the final test after the competition is given will be analyzed using quantitative methods with descriptive statistics to describe and determine the significance of the Vocabulary Competition in increasing students' vocabulary knowledge. Based on the results of quantitative analysis, the average (mean) is 74 for the pre-test and 89 for the post-test. Therefore, comparing the average of the pre-test with the post-test, shows that there is an increase in students' ability to learn vocabulary. From statistical tests, Asymp Sig. (2-tailed) of the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test is 0.000. The results reached less than 0.05 (significance level), which means the results are significantly different. The Normalized Gain calculation shows that the gain result is 0.58, which means the gain is in the medium range (0.7 > <g> > 0.3).
